2020 Bill Skillend Prize Winner

The British Association for Korean Studies is very pleased to announce that the 2020 Bill Skillend Prize goes to Tilley Sampson from Brighton University for her study on Korean jogakbo and its influence in high-fashion. Entitled “Boro and Jogakbo: scraps of beauty?” the project stood out for its originality, persuasive arguments and well-presented analysis.

The Skillend prize is awarded in commemoration of the late Professor Bill Skillend to an undergraduate student submitting an outstanding dissertation on a Korea-related topic. This year we received the largest numbers of entries ever. We will be launching the Prize again in 2021. The competition is open to any undergraduate student, studying at a university in Britain, who would like to present for consideration a dissertation/Final Project/Independent Study Project equivalent to 30 CATS/credits on a Korea-related topic. The text should be typewritten, and not exceed 12,000 words.

The BAKS Committee is grateful to Dr Jim Hoare for his donation.
