The British Association of Korean Studies is extremely pleased to announce the Bill Skillend Prize 2020.
This prize is awarded in commemoration of the late Professor Bill Skillend to an undergraduate student submitting an outstanding dissertation on a Korea-related topic. Professor Bill Skillend was a pioneer in the study of Korean language and literature and responsible for the introduction of its instruction in Britain.
In memory of the late Professor Bill Skillend, a sum of up to £200 is available as Prize money.
The competition is open to any undergraduate student, studying at a university in Britain, who would like to present for consideration a dissertation/Final Project/Independent Study Project equivalent to 30 CATS/credits on a Korea-related topic. The text should be typewritten, and not exceed 12,000 words.
The submitted work should be no more than 4 months old at the closing date, and must be submitted as an electronic (pdf) version to Prof Hazel Smith hs50@soas.ac.uk, and cc’ed to BAKS President, Charlotte Horlyck ch10@soas.ac.uk Please put ‘Skillend Prize’ in the email heading.
Addendum and Extension (6th July 2020)
It has come to our attention that some degree programme specify that the dissertation is submitted prior to the four month period specified in the Bill Skillend prize rules. In these circumstances we will accept submission of dissertations, with a cover letter from the supervisor confirming the specific degree deadlines. We also are extending the prize submission for one week to the 22nd of July, 2020.
