Irish Association for Asian Studies

The first Annual Conference of the Irish Association for Asian Studies will be held in Dublin City University on 17th and 18th June 2016.

It is jointly organised by IAAS and the School of Applied Language & Intercultural Studies at Dublin City University.

The theme of the conference is Commemoration. We hope the conference will provide a platform for lively discussions amongst scholars from interdisciplinary fields related to Asia.

Contributors are invited to submit papers on topics such as, but not limited to, the following:

1-Commemoration in Society

  • Disasters, survivors and rebuilding societies

  • Fight for equality in gender and sexuality in Asia

3-Commemoration and Asia in the Digital world

  • Translating loss
  • Sharing emotions in the digital world
  • Enabling commemoration – media, translation and technology
  • Commemoration and appreciation – tribute and fandom
