About the opportunity 

The Department of Korean Studies within the School of Languages and Cultures is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Academic Level B). The Department offers a comprehensive program of studies, incorporating language acquisition for learners at all levels, and covering many aspects of Korean history, culture and society.

In this role you will:

• maintain a research profile compatible with the Department’s research programs through publication and research grant application
• supervise honours and postgraduate research students in Korean Studies
• develop, coordinate and teach Korean language and culture courses at all levels (beginners to advanced)
• actively contribute to interdisciplinary teaching in at least one of the following majors: Korean Studies, Asian Studies, International and Comparative Literature, and/or translation studies.
• participate in academic administration and promote Korean studies internally and externally.

About you

• native or near-native fluency in Korean and English
• a completed PhD in Korean Studies or a relevant discipline (humanities and/or social sciences)
• a strong record of peer-reviewed publications relative to opportunity
• demonstrated experience and commitment to innovative teaching and course development of Korean language at all levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced) with success in student retention and high levels of language competency
• demonstrated experience teaching Korean culture courses
• evidence of research grant applications, relative to opportunity
• evidence of capacity to work flexibly and collaboratively in a team environment and assume roles in academic administration.

There are also desirable criteria for appointment.
